About

Crochet this beautiful beginner level blanket using a super bulky weight yarn and finish it in record time. I was going for mindless project which can be therapeutic as you only need to repeat the 2 rows from basic crochet stitches. It is a perfect DIY project and adds sentimental value.

I am yet to go into a normal basement that is not freezing, That is why it is important to have a blanket close by while you are in the basement or anywhere in the house to be honest to keep you warm and cozy. If you are like me, who is cold most of the time, you cherish a blanket close by.

My recent favourite stitch is this particular one, I already designed a top with it and it reminds me of Purl ridge stitch in knitting which is very elegant. This motivates me to come up with different other patterns using this stitch.

Inspirations

The pattern is inspired by simplicity, comfort and elegance. The best way to tie it together was my colour choice. I went with fishermen colour to represent elegance, simplicity, humility and comfort of course. Lion brand super bulky weight yarn is a 20% wool and 80% acrylic which will keep you warm and cozy, and they have lot of colours to choose from. You can choose the colour that speaks to you to lighten up your mood, give you sense of serenity. The other option could be that you can use 3 strands of worsted yarn if you wanted to be whimsical. To me blankets are a warm welcome when I see them lying on the couch. It gives me a sense of comfort and we all love Comfort am I right?

Stitch

The stitches used here make clean, simple detail from double crochet and slip stitch. It works out beautifully with chunky yarn because when I Worked the swatch with lighter weight yarns, I noticed gaps at the end or beginning or rows depending on how you look at it, this was from working on the back loops and it did not look neat. I did not however experience that with this particular yarn, so if you incur such, insert hook in both loops of the last and first stitch on each row.

Size

The instructions for this pattern is for a Lapghan size blanket which is 35 by 50” without the fringe. The stitch repeats are so easy which makes this project easy to modify. if you prefer a different blanket size, chain as many foundation chain as you want which will be the width of your blanket.

This blanket worked nicely with 9mm hook but if you find your stitches a little stiff, use a bigger hook 10mm hook, 12mm hook even. Remember, the bigger the hook the less foundation chains you will need

ADDING FRINGE

1.Wrap yarn around a book: this depends on how long the fringe will be. The book I used is 6” long

2.Wrap yarn around it and cut the strips on one end of the book.

3. Fold the strips in half

4. Insert hook on each stitch on the edge of the blanket. Pull the strip back through and hook the yarn at the middle.

5.Pull through and get the loop with index and thumb. Reach through the loop, grab the tail and pull until the knot is snug.
