About

Family toque is all about inclusivity. We all love a sense of belonging and what a better way to do than to have hat that match for the whole family. The whole idea was to have a hat for everyone; kids to adult. This toque is 2 in 1, on days when you need to keep your head warm yet not too cold, you wear it slouchy and you fold the brim on those bitterly cold days.

Inspiration

Family toque is inspired by togetherness. We all have family traditions, matching Pyjamas, Christmas hats and I figured sometimes we go for family photo shoots in winter and this pattern would be a perfect fit for just occasions. I watch movies and often love the cohesion between family member, either by same color palette or same design with different color. I am all for individuality and every member in the family can wear the same hat but choosing their favourite color. My youngest daughter loves red, and whenever I make or buy her something, I look for red first and her secondary colorif I do not find it.

Yarn

This pattern uses weight yarn 5 and I used Hue and me by Lion brand which is 20%wool and 80% acrylic. It is a thick, dense yarn which makes the hat very warm. Testers used different types and it turns out beautifully so you can’t go wrong.

Sizes

The family toque pattern includes toddler, child, teen/adult medium and adult large sizes. It is easy to adjust because is worked on rows. The starting chains would be the length of your hat, so if you want a longer hat, add more chains and if you want it wider, measure your head circumference and then you measure your hat you add more rows until you reach your desired width. One thing to remember though is, the stitch is very stretchy, the hat will feel tight the first time you try it on and then stretch and feel looser. The modelled hat is for teen/adult size.

NOTES

·      Pattern is written in standard US terms.

·      Pattern comes in toddler, child and 2 adult sizes.

·      Keep the stitches loose so that you get more stretch and would be easier to work in the back loop.

·      Ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch throughout.

·      Number of starting chains will determine the length of the toque. If you want a slouchier hat, add more of the beginning chains.

·      Numbers at the end of the row represents total number of stitches for each size.

·      There is no right or wrong side to the hat.

·      Some stitches will be left unworked to create a dome shape and for less bulky cinching.
