We have had mild winter here so far and I am grateful but it is still chilly enough to have an accessory to keep your neck warm and stylish at the same time. I thought it would great to show you how to make a simple scarf that does not require a lot of experience. All you need to know is the basic stitch double crochet.This design is very simple and great for improving your skills and maybe speed if that what you are aiming for

I don’t know about you and how you feel about winter/fall and spring accessories but I love some coziness around my neck. I know some people hate the idea of something around their neck, some come from the fact that they have to constantly adjust the scarf because if keeps slipping, some do not like the idea of something bulky around their neck because it is suffocating

Well, I am here to present you, Chinook scarf, this was my very first pattern I designed few years ago. Here in western Canada, we have what is called chinook winds, they are basically a type of warm and dry winds can make temperatures to increase within few hours during winter. We can go from -20 degrees Celsius to – 10 degrees overnight. This scarf is perfect for those kinds of situations.

Yarnspirations Ogo yarn is what I used for this pattern.I love how clean the stitches come out using this yarn.It is soft, the elasticity is amazing. There are different colours in one big donut but I separated the colours and caked them so that I get clean colour changes. I used only donut for this pattern. The yarn is 100% acrylic and you can use any worsted weight yarn.

NOTES

1. 3Ch counts as Dc throughout, a stitch is worked on it.

2. Multiples of 2 +1 in case you want the scarf wider or narrower.

MATERIALS

 Ogo, Yarnspirations 100% acrylic, 1 donut: 280 g/9.9 oz, 459 m/502 yds

The sample used approximately 459m/502yds

Hook: 5mm

Scissors

Yarn needle

Gauge & size

16 Sts by 12 rows of (2Sc & crossed Dc combo) = 4” square/10cm

The gauge is not very important for this pattern

The scarf is 60” long and 10” wide

ABBREVIATIONS

 St(s)- stitch

Sc – single crochet

Dc – double crochet

Ch - chain

Sk - skip

CH 41

 Row 1: Sc in second Ch from the hook and to end of row. (40sc)

 Row 2: Turn, Ch 1 and Sc to end of row. (40sc)

 Row 3:  Turn, Ch 3, Sk 1 St *Dc in next St, Dc in the skipped St, this makes a cross “X” ; rep from* until you reach the last St, dc, Ch 1 & turn.

Repeat rows 1-3

ending with Row 2 until you reach 60in or the desired length. Leave a long tail and cut the yarn. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Cautious not to twist the scarf, fold it in half. Align the last rows together and sew the end together.

Weave in the ends and VOILA!!!! you are done.
