Sheer Long Crochet Cardigan Pattern

Sheer cardigan is a free super long pattern with a simple and elegant construction. I am not a fan on seaming so I had to design a pattern where front and back panels are one piece. We would all rather spend more time crocheting, am I right? I can’t be the only one?

Sheer name comes from the idea of crocheting vertical stitches.

It has a classic fit, which makes it perfect to be paired with lot of clothes, leggings and a t-shirt comes to mind, or a maxi dress. Cardigans are timeless and versatile. You need something that goes with other clothes in your wardrobe and this cardigan is IT. It is perfect for running errands or casual Fridays at the office. The length can be adjusted and if you are adventurous, you can make stripes. The stitches are simple, alternate double crochet and half double stitches

Due to the nature of this construction, the pattern is beginner friendly. The only part that may be tricky is the sleeves. There are increases but if I am being honest, increases are basically making 2 stitches on the same stitch at the end and the beginning of a row.

Yarn

I used Divina yarn from Hobbii. They were happy to provide the yarn for this pattern and I could not be happier. The yarn is worsted weight yarn, but it feels light yet warm due to the softest natural fibre of baby alpaca and merino wool.

Yarn substitute for this yarn would be wonderfluff by We crochet or Chainette by Lionbrand.

SEAMING

Lay panels flat. Mark the centre sleeve st with a stitch marker and align to the shoulder seam. Seam the sleeve onto the body, making sure you have the same number of rows for both panels for the sleeves.

Sleeves and Sides

Fold the cardigan at the shoulders and align rows, Use the long tail and seam the sleeves from the cuff towards the armpit. Continue to the side of the sweater and leave a 10 in slit at the bottom. Repeat on the second sleeve and side. Note: If you do not have enough long tail, attach new yarn and seam the sides.

Ribbing

Front panels using 4.5 mm hook

Join yarn at the bottom of each panel and evenly make sc. ch 11 at the end of the panel.

Row 1: sc into the second ch from the hook and each ch down toward the panel. Sl st into the first 2 sts on the panel, turn.

Row 2: working into the ribbing sts, sc in the blo across. Ch 1 & turn.

Row 3: sc in the blo of each st across, sl st into the next 2 sts on the panel, turn.

Rep rows 2 & 3 until you reach the end of the panel. Leave a long tail to seam later. Cut yarn and fasten off.
